Hear from the Candidates

Verite is a nonprofit news source for New Orleans. They contacted all 60 candidates running for office. Their questions center around what makes the candidate qualified, who supports their campaign financially, how they would address what they see as the biggest challenges facing the City, the relationships between Council and Mayor, and between the City and State and Federal governments, and key issues like the affordable housing crisis, population loss, infrastructure, economic development, and transparency.

Bureau of Governmental Research

The Bureau of Governmental Research (BGR) is a private, nonprofit, independent research organization dedicated to informed public policy making and the effective use of public resources for the improvement of government in greater New Orleans. In their “Candidate Q&A Reports, they asked the candidates for Mayor, City Council and Sheriff in the October 11, 2025 primary election to explain how they will address important public policy issues if elected. Their questions center around specific policy recommendations BGR has made on City Government Performance, City Budget and Financial Management, Public Safety, Orleans Parish Jail, Street Maintenance, Sewerage & Water Board Governance, Stormwater Fee, Affordable Housing, Economic Development, and Pensions.

Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center

Louisiana Fair Housing Action Center is a nonprofit civil rights organization established in 1995 to eradicate housing discrimination. They asked the city’s mayoral and city council candidates to share their plans to combat housing discrimination and ensure that the people across the city, their constituents, have an affordable and well-resourced place to call home.

The Big Easy Budget Coalition is a broad-based, community-rooted, and data-driven coalition of over 30 New Orleans organizations working together to transform the New Orleans City budget. This Ballot Guide is a tool for New Orleanians to understand how candidates for office across the city in 2025 envision the city budget process. All candidates running for mayor, city council, assessor, and county clerk were sent a five-question survey focused on their ideal budget, as well as accountability and transparency.

Voters Organized to Educate (VOTE)

This is the sister organization to Voice of the Experienced (VOTE), the leading grassroots force for re-imagining Louisiana’s criminal justice system. They are a PAC, which means they make endorsements and can support candidates financially. Their focus is addressing systemic injustices, rehabilitation, resilient communities, and reimagining public safety outside of over-policing and prisons. They surveyed candidates for Mayor, City Council and Sheriff on questions ranging from housing security to supporting FIPs, addressing homelessness, laying out plans for the future of the city jail, and more.
