Verite: Moreno proposes lean $1.47 billion city budget for 2027, with layoffs and further cuts
CBNO Executive Director Nellie Catzen was interviewed on the 2027 proposed budget cuts and restoring public trust in the City’s Administration:
“The administration has been very transparent that what they’re looking to do is protect essential services, and this budget shows a pretty narrow definition of what is considered essential. … We’ve been interviewing people about their budget priorities for more than a decade now and what consistently emerges as the top priorities of the public are things like housing and services for young people, mental health and good paying jobs.”
“There’s a big void in public trust … People don’t have faith that the city is acting in their best interests. In order to get out of this crisis, the people need to believe that these changes both on the revenue side and the expense side will result in a material difference in the problems that they’re seeing in their communities.”
