Verite: Council passes Moreno-helmed $1.59 billion budget
CBNO Executive Director Nellie Catzen was interviewed on the community’s response to the budget cuts.
“Honestly, I’m feeling anxious, as I think a lot of folks are,” said Nellie Catzen, executive director of the Committee for a Better New Orleans. “Cutting $200 million is an unenviable task. … Over the past few years the city has increased investments in youth services and jobs, community-based safety programs that tackle the root causes of crime, and we’re seeing safer communities. This budget cuts back on those investments, especially from youth services. I’d hate to lose that progress.”
